Race To Fort William

02/06/2021

Last year we ran our first ever Race Night, raising £636 for Shelter. This year we wanted to repeat the success of this fundraiser, but unfortunately, due to current restrictions, an event like that of last years was impossible. This didn't deter our Community and Welfare Officer, Megan, who came up with a solution: Race to Fort William!!

Our chosen charity this year was Hopscotch Children's Charity, whose work is focused on disadvantaged and vulnerable children. Their respite centre in Fort William provides these children free breaks with exciting experiences that ensure they make long-lasting memories. The aim of our fundraiser was to walk/run/cycle the distance from Pleasance to the respite centre in Fort William and back (428km) in 10 days, whilst raising money through sponsorship.

The involvement from our club members was immense, so much so that, altogether, we covered a whopping 1622.89 km!! This is more than 3x our goal! To make things even better, we smashed our initial target and raised an incredible £769 (+£88.75 GiftAid) for Hopscotch- beating last year's donation!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the distance- you went above and beyond! And thank you to all those who donated to this wonderful cause- your support has been overwhelming!

A shoutout also to our amazing alumni who got involved, filming some words of encouragement to inspire our members during the fundraiser!

To celebrate our success we held a Race Night social over zoom which had a great turnout. Thank you to our sponsors Dough for providing us with their delicious pizza!

During the fundraiser there were awards up for grabs and we announced these winners at the social:
