Semester 1 2020/21

01/02/2021

Undoubtedly this semester was not exactly what we anticipated nor was it entirely easy. Nevertheless, as a team, we still pulled together to make the most of it, trying new activities and making new memories.

Fortunately, in September, we were able to run taster sessions and as a result we continued to welcome many new members into the club! Our sessions were certainly different to normal, with limited numbers, social distancing and additional cleaning, but all our members approached these changes with enthusiasm- it was great to be back together and training with friends. We were grateful to Student Scottish Trampolining for inviting us to takeover their Instagram, where we demonstrated how we were training and spoke to some old members who told us what they love about EUTC. We also took to zoom for our weekly conditioning sessions- a big thank you to the Gymnastics Club for helping to run these with us!

In typical EUTC fashion we ran some fun socials, allowing old members and new members the opportunity to get to know each other. These included our Christmas quiz and our popular Netflix pizza party, kindly supplied by our sponsor, Dough. Then, During our October SGM we elected our lovely New Members' Representative, Rosie (Meet the Committee).

Our community and welfare officer, Megan, led an exciting Halloween fundraiser, seeing many of our members dressing up in competition for the best costume, with all donations going directly to the children's charity, Hopscotch! Additionally, during November, Megan spent the University Mental Health and Wellbeing weeks encouraging members to take a break and relax in her #15forme campaign. Some of our members also stepped forward to contribute to the SU #LetsTalk campaign, sharing their sporting stories for #PeopleofEUSU.

Unfortunately, due to restrictions, training was unable to continue as we hoped for this semester so it was more important than ever to try to keep team spirit high. We therefore began a series of 'sports day' outdoor sessions, where our members showed off their hidden football and rounders talents.

We've had a different but exciting semester despite the limitations faced, and we now look forward to next semester where we hope to eventually return to training and make more memories with our EUTC friends, perhaps without a screen between us!
